High Hopes for Paris

I’m getting ready to leave for Paris to restock on some European furniture for VW Home. Though the Euro is high, my hopes are great of finding wonderful new things. If I’m lucky I’ll find pieces like this 18th-century Italian Cardinal’s chair that I found on my last trip and had reupholstered with Dedar fabrics for use in the Showhouse. It looks so great juxtaposed to my VW Home wingchair with stainless steel legs upholstered in a VW Home fabric and used in the same room with the walls covered in Hunter Douglas’ new Pirouette shades. Don’t be afraid when designing a room to bring different elements together – even if they’re from different centuries and countries.

Metropolitan Home's Showtime House

I just finished the Met Home / Showtime TV Networks Showhouse at 23 Gramercy Park South. It was a great laboratory to come up with new concepts and try, as always, to alter one’s perspective in design. A wonderful Ann Sacks gold-leaf glass tile on the bathroom walls, an animated wall projection of Chinese panels that included butterflies and swaying branches added to the glamorous setting, inspired by the Showtime show, The L Word. The color of the room’s walls was Benjamin Moore’s Bunny Grey in the new Aura base (#2124-50) and I brought into the setting my collection of crystal for Baccarat called Latitude, and hung from the ceiling a Baccarat chandelier that added a level of glamour to the space. I really love the great custom cabinet – covered in Shagreen with a bronze frame – by VW Home as well as the antiques and an upholstered chair from the showroom.
